  • USTA's The Big Serve

The Big Serve is the USTA's advocacy initiative. The effort is aimed at connecting the passion of USTA members and the larger tennis community with the public policy needs of the communities in which they live. We know that tennis is a sport that can change lives and improve communities, and this website is just one of the tools the USTA has developed to help make that happen across the country..

  • 2011 4.0 Men National Champions

Inter-City Players from Rancho Cienega represented So. Cal at Nationals for the Senior League, and they won the whole thing! Even though this was not the first time Verdell Adams had taken a team to Nationals, it was no less sweet.

Congratulations to these other teams for advancing to Nationals this year:

Adult League - 4.0 W - Fremont Park, Ade Quingco Captain

Adult League - 5.0 M - Westchester, Bill Willis Captain

  • More National Champions for LA!

Congratulations to Christen Bartelt and her team of 5.0 women from Malibu for winning the 2010 Adult League National Championship!

Congragulations to Mountaingate's Super Senior 7.0 men, for their victory at 2009 Nationals!

  • Sportsmanship example

    Hi Lori and Janet,

Today we played a match at Mullholland Tennis Club. One of our players, David, was sick, and woke up late. He called me about 45 minutes before the match was to begin and asked if I could get a sub. I called 2 of our other players, only to get their voice mail. I called David back and said we needed him to play. He said he would get there as soon as he could and try. Well somehow he wound up at Mountaingate instead of Mullholland and called me wanting to know where everyone was. I told him what court we were on. Eventually we realized he went to the wrong place and I told him where to go. He said he needed directions and needed to fill up his gas tank. With this I just said forget it, and told John we were forfeiting singles line 2. Our match was to start at 12, and about 12:30 or 12:45 he shows up.

Well John Swanstrom, the Mullholland captain, was to play David and could have easily taken a forfeit. Instead he said lets play tennis, I don't want a forfeit, and they warmed up and played their match.

John is quite a guy... a real gentleman and sportsman. How wonderful it would be if this was contagious throughout the league.

    Steve
